Background
4-tert-Butylphenol formaldehyde resin is an adhesive which has commonly
been reported as a cause of allergic contact dermatitis particularly in
shoes. It is used in shoes because of its durability and flexibilty. It
is frequently used to bond leather, rubber to rubber, or rubber to metal
surfaces.
Formaldehyde is not a primary allergen in this resin. Depigmentation
has been reported to this agent without preceding inflammation.
