Background

Ylang-Ylang oil is a volatile oil distilled in Madagascar, Reunion Island, Comoro Islands, and the Phillipine Islands from freshly picked flowers of Cananga odorata. The first distillate yields the so-called "ylang-ylang extra" and is the finest oil. The consituents include geraniol and linalool esters of acetic and benzoic acid, p-cresol methyl ether, cadinene, a sesquiterpene and a phenol. The primary sensitizer is dehydroisoeugenol.
