Verruciform xanthoma is een zeldzame benigne afwijking
van de mondholte. Het wordt ingedeeld onder de
xanthomen, maar er is geen hyperlipidemie.
Klinisch is het een gelige of oranjegele verruceuze papel of klein tumortje
in de mondholte, vooral gingiva, palatum, soms tong. Kan ook in de anus voorkomen.
Meestal solitair, soms multipel. Enkele mm tot 2 cm groot. Begint meestal rond
de 50-60 jaar, zeldzaam bij kinderen.
De oorzaak is niet bekend, waarschijnlijk
een reactief beeld op een inflammatoir proces (mogelijk HPV). Verruciform xanthoma
is ook beschreven bij lichen planus, epidermolysis bullosa, graft vs. host disease,
congenital hemidysplasia with ichthyosiform erythroderma and limb defect (CHILD
syndrome), en bij epidermaal nevus syndroom.

Histologie:
Papilleus epitheel met diepe plooien waartussen keratine zich ophoopt. In het
bindweefsel schuimcellen (xanthoma cellen).
Therapie:
Excisie.
